Ok so i have the gauge in the correct spot where the clock use to be and its getting a good reading from the vac line i am using. The thing is its a 'smoked" style gauage so its needs a power supply to light up so i can see it. I have used the ash tray lighting to no avail. basically the gauge has 3 wire's red (12 volt ignition), orange (lighthing) and black for grounding. I have tried wiring up the the white line from the asktray to both the red and the orange and neither is working to get the gauge going. the green wire is connected to the black as i understand this is a grounding wire. What am i doing wrong or do i need to take power from somewhere else and use all 3 wires ?

try to hook the wires to the wires from the stereo. the stereo harness has one set for illumination (orange), basically it will dim a at night when you turn the headlights on.
