Just got home. The BEST SILV ever, but this thread is about drag racing. First off, BIG CONGRATS to all the racers that came to participate, SW, Ryan, Cody, Saad, Ian, Brett Todd, Big Daddy, Jaws Gear, the owner of the light blue silver metallic MKIII and others. Even BIGGER CONGRATS to Cody (King Kong) Phillips for winning the 6-speed challenge and beating a very strong second place Kean Wang for the inaugural winner of the High Roller Series.
Cody, I told you, you were my darkhorse/sleeper candidate. I think I witnessed four CONSECUTIVE 8-second runs from you. Amazing runs, bud, and, as always, the car looked the part.
I believe SW ran an 8.52 when Ryan ran his 8.58, but I'm not sure because I was on my way to the track and this went down before I got there. I know SW must be frustrated as hell watching him run both Friday and Saturday nights. For the life of me, we could not figure out what the starter was doing. Both nights, he held SW FOREVER as the car was building boost and holding it so long, it made clean starts virtually impossible. Yet, we watched him provide perfect starts to a bunch of domestic cars over two nights of racing. SW had a tremendous run where he red lit because the car rolled through the staging lights as a result of all the starter issues. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but, man, it was hard to watch it in person. On one occasion, he held SW forever. The next car up was Ryan and I swear, he attempted to catch Ryan flat-footed, ripping through the lights compared to the slow agony of SW's starts. Ryan was pretty much up to it, but the starter inconsistency was apparent all through the night when the 6-speed guys were trying to put it down. Watching Saad pull on the front tires on EVERY launch was very cool to see as well.
At the end of the evening, Ryan was lined up to run one more time after breaking and fixing stuff both nights (I love your never say die attitude when he comes to racing). Unfortunately, the rain that had held off all afternoon and evening started coming down and the evening's race activities were called to a halt. We all knew the very real record-breaking potential was there....conditions were virtually perfect until the rain started and the wind had even died down some, although it was really not a factor from what we could tell.
Ryan, as I told you in Vegas MANY THANKS for setting everything aside to make it to SILV. I am sure you know that with SW, Cody, Kean, Saad and others already committed, having you step up was the frosting on the cake and electrified the overall event.
I saw something many have not seen too often over the last few years, Boost Logic actually breaking, but not before Kean cracked off an 8.1. He was definitely on his way to a series of seven-second runs in the excellent running conditions we experienced. I do not know what broke, but it's alway great to see that car perform. Congrats once again to all involved.
Ken.
