My 34,000 original mile '84 supra was idling in the driveway when it died. Wouldn't restart so I pulled the front timming cover off thinking it may have snapped the timming belt. What I found shocked the piss out of me. The intake cam had walked out about 1/2 inch . Wtf? Is this common on the 5mge? I have never seen anything like this before.

Thanks,
Robert

How's the belt tension? This can happen if the tensioner pulley lets a little slack in.

Also, it might mean that your T-belt is missing a few teeth somewhere. With a 18 year old timing belt (guessing it is stock, since the car only has 34k miles) this could easily happen.
