ok, i cannot figure out what causing my car to act up. ok heres the status its a 89 5 speed n/a, last night it was running like a champ i couldnt ask for more out of it. this morning i wake up to go to work and start it up it sounds like its only running on 5 cyclinders so i have to drive it to work. On the way to work it has absolutly no power like its running on 4 or 5 cylinders it has sound as if it want to go but just cant. so i get home and i thought it was the plugs so i checked them all out and they were fine . ok so i figure wires also fine. i then checked for leak none afm is working . im so confused it has air ,spark ,fuel. the car doesnt overheat and when giving it gas only a very small amout of smoke . so guys pleas ehelp m eout i need to get thi sfigured out. thanks

while teh car is running start removing one plug wire at a time, you will hear a rpm drop, do this to each cyl. by doing this you will be able to tell which cyl(s) are not firing.
my guess would be a coil pack is out!

my next guess would be, that you have the maxx evo front end on it, and wont sell it to me J/K

My Supra was going the same thing it turned out to be the EFI resistor. Try unplugging the connectors on the fuel injectors one at a time. The ones the make it run rough are getting a signal the ones that make it run no worse arent getting a signal. If its what was wrong with mine 1&4, 2&6 or 5&3 wont work.
Im not sure if the NAs have the EFI resistors but you may try this out

I Think AFM!

From what you describe I am guessing at the AFM. My Factory Svc Manual says the codes you retrieved indicate the following:

24-Intake air temp sensor
31-Air Flow meter signal
42-Vehicle speed sensor

IF you have a DVOM you can do some checks on the AFM and or the ECU. I have a factory manual with all the specs, but without the pics its kinda hard to describe which wire pin to check.
The air temp sensor is built into the AFM so I feel that the AFM is a pretty safe bet. You can price them new or used, I may have an extra at my parents place but I will have to check. Hope this helps!

best as i can describe:

Unplug the AFM. Each pin on the AFM itself as it sits from left to right are as follows:

(Left) FC E1 E2 VC E2 VS THA (Right)

Between terminals E2-VS reading in Ohms should be 200-600

Between " E2-VC " " " 200-400

Between " E2-THA (In degrees Farenheit)
10,000-20,000 Ohms -4degrees
4,000-7,000 Ohms 32 degrees
2,000-3,000 Ohms 68 degrees
900-1,300 Ohms 104 degrees
400-700 Ohms 140 degrees

Between terminals E1-FC reading in Ohms should be infinity.
If the resistance is not as specified, replace air flow meter.

Now this is what is done in the manual to check the AFM.
Check the terminals on the AFM and not the plug.
I hope this helps.
