Any 5- or 6-spd automatic that works for the GTE?

I have the stock auto tranny in my '94 MKIV Turbo. Is there a 5- or 6-spd tranny that would work? Since I run my car on the road course, I need it sturdy, but not lose any top end (If you've been to Road Atlanta, you know why). That's also where another gear would be useful!
The car also will remain a totally street car as well.
Any advice appreciated.

Verrrrrrrrryyyyyy nice, indeed!
I'm sure a 6l80 could be made to work. Expect to spend some serious coin though.
I saw reference to it holding only 430 ft-lb torque! That won't do - did I miss something. And prices were quite high - I saw a quote for $4700 shipped, no install.:crying:

I've been thinking about a 6r80 from the new 5.0's
They are good for putting a 3800lb mustang into the low 8's unmodified. Ford rates these autos in stock form for 800lb ft of torque. Some of the new 5.0 guys have been putting 900-1000 lb ft thru them no problem.

The new 2013 mustangs have paddle shifters with the automatics too. I honestly think it would be a better option than the tundra transmission. I've heard of failures with the tundras with the Trd supercharger. 504 Hp and 550 lb ft at the crank supercharged. If I was gonna spend the coin and time putting a 6 speed auto in a supra and wanted paddle shifters I would get one from the 2013 mustang 5.0 the transmission is already strong as hell. Easily capable of 800 lbft of torque unmodified. As far as price wise I have no idea but at least you wouldn't have to worry about building the transmission.

well that 6r80 out of the ford f150 and mustang sells on ebay for about 1500 sooo if you can figure a way to control it i supose it wouldnt be a bad option if you could make it fit and work out the torque converter and bell housing adapter

Where there is a will there Is a way.
Would pro-efi be able to control it? It really would be a sweet trans with the paddle shifters.

1500$ isn't bad at all! Were they new or used?
I'm not sure if the ones from the 5.0 and the f-150's are identical. Knowing ford and their modular mindset they should be the same

I work at a trans shop and all ford trans are not built very good. it's there case and electronics that make them bad.. Cheap stuff. But I haven't gotten my hands on there new trans yet. As for the tundra trans it's very strong only problem they have is there plastic accumulators that go bad...but nothing a billet ones won't fix and cheap fix.

You could also look into the 6-speed auto that's in the Lexus LS430 (2004-2006, only). I have a 2006 LS430, and in comparison to the stock A340E that I have here, and my stock GS300 trans that I've serviced in the past - it looks like it's built like a brick shithouse. They're cheaper on EBAY, too. I've seen them for around $900-$1600.
