Any experience with AUTOBAHN88 intercooler kit?

I was running 520whp on a PTE6262. It had a 2-row ARC intercooler but it was really beat and worn from age so sold it off to a friend.

I just simply want something that gives me the results and is reasonable in price. I was looking into some full bolt-on kits and came across the autobahn88.

I have previously bought an autobahn88 JDM downpipe also an oil cooler kit and was very happy with the quality of their product.

Now speaking of intercoolers, this full kit is available for only $450. I know there is some other American made kits like godspeed but this one seems nicer? would be great to know if anyone is running this kit?

The quality and fitment of this kit is similar to much more expensive fmic's on the market like Greddy, Blitz, HKS and even APS.
In most cases this front mount intercooler is larger and more efficient than the rest.
For those who want a comparison for fitting, the ab88 kit is identicle to the Greddy kit.

ETS is your best choice!
ETS continually updates the design of their core, they were actually recommended to me by Titan. Do some research or contact them.

All intercoolers are not equal



You have a lot to take into consideration when purchasing a front mount.

The first thing you want to check out is the fin pack design. An offset and staggered fin design will be your best bet in dissipating heat. The straight through fin design will pass the air right through like a tunnel, the offset and staggered fin pack breaks up the air molecules and forces the air to come in contact with multiple fins creating a denser charge air.

The next would be the intercooler core design. We prefer a bar and plate core. This cores does an amazing job at being efficient.


** ETS Core VS Garrett (We do something a little different here by changing the size of the charge row to give us more heat transfer plates. If we have an extra 4 charge rows over the competitor core in the same area we get 8 extra heat transfer plates. This is the top and bottom plate of the charge row. By doing this we can loosen up the internal charge rows which gives us less pressure drop and more external heat transfer area.

Here is a picture of the Garrett core that we cut in half to make a smaller SRT-4 intercooler. The internal results of the Garrett core were a bit disturbing. The core doesn't look like it would flow too well.

For comparison, the Greddy 3 row is 100mm thick X 600 X 300; so this seems equivalent to a 2-row. I don't see any point in "upgrading" to anything less than a 3 row. I have an ETS 3-row and very happy with it.

I had the ETS 4" FMIC on my Evo X and the quality like everyone else said is top notch. Their customer service is awesome and I've been happy with all of their products as far as price, quality, fitment, looks, performance, you name it

Hmm that looks like a nice kit but that's still a $800 difference, I don't mean to sound cheap but I just want something that works doesn't have to be the best thing out there. I just dumped lots of money into other parts of my build, and considering I'm not after big HP figures not sure if a 4" core intercooler is necessary. If it's larger wouldn't that cause a little more turbo lag?

Nonetheless I was just trying to figure out any guys experience with this autobahn88 kit.

A good intercooler isn't something that's purchased to support some HP figure. The shittiest IC in the world won't stop you from making 1000hp on the dyno for a couple pulls. Hell I made 399whp & 428wtq through the stock 7M-GTE IC on the dyno.
Where a good IC pays off is in colder intake temps (more power for a given boost level + better detonation resistance) as well as pull to pull consistency & resistance to heat soak.

The Autobahn88, Godspeed, XSPower, blah blah blah - it's all a bunch of cheap, inferior IC cores that are sloppily made and you *will* lose power with them vs a quality IC core like the ETS or a used HKS or Greddy. Your old 'beat up' ARC IC would likely perform better despite any damage, too. The Japanese tuners are largely limited to their 100RON pump premium, and they also love those balls-out highway runs that last 20-30mins or more, so cooling is absolutely imperative for reliable performance, hence the generally high cost of Japanese IC's - they're quality shit that's meant to do serious work.

The only real logical reason to run a cheap ass POS IC is if you're building a cheap drift missile and IC cores are very likely to be damaged at any event you go to, where your runs are almost always less than 1.5-2mins of actual running. On the drift cars I've worked on, I've found that the fleabay and McCheapass IC's and piping kits require some fuss & fucking with to install, and they never really sit right. Meanwhile HKS or Greddy kits are a breeze to install and the piping fits perfectly - and I've literally never heard of anyone complaining about the ETS kit for any reason, so I'd recommend them in a heartbeat as well.

It's worth mentioning also that everyone I've heard of that took pre-IC and post-IC intake temp data always ends up buying a quality intercooler shortly thereafter, if they didn't own one already. If you've got a tight budget (and believe me, my build budgets are tight as well, so I get it) I'd recommend getting the ETS intercooler, or a used Greddy 3-row, HKS Type-R, etc, and making the cheap IC piping kit work from there. It really is money well spent to get a good IC.

Well with almost all performance parts, you get what you pay for. You don't need the ETS piping. You could go the ebay route on that if you're ready to make some modification to make it fit. Just don't expect much if you're spending $450 on an entire kit. I wouldn't run it as I've never heard of it but who knows, it could work just fine

I don't have any experience with the kit you mentioned but just replaced my eBay fmic kit for a 4" ETS core and and fabbed up IC pipes. I planed to use my old pipes but since the ETS core was wider than my ebay core and it would have taken a lot of work to make it fit properly. I would order the entire ETS kit if I had to do it over again.

ETS has the surface area advantage over many other options and when it comes to heat transfer is one of the best given the design and they are reasonably affordable when you look at the market of what is available.

I have one and I have been happy with it, and by that I have not noticed any issues no matter how I drive it in the city or running a bunch of pulls on the highway and to me it's sort of like a basketball analogy. The best game is a game in which you don't notice the officials, they sort of blend into the background. As far as intercoolers go, you want an intercooler that is going to be effective in a way that you forget it's even there.

Looks like their is an $800 difference between the linked kit and the ETS kit. ETS makes very good products but for $450 shipped on the other one, it could be a gamble.
