I am sure of you guys are looking for a factory upgrade, and not looking for anything noticable, or drastic in appearance. I stumbled across this woofer, and I was curious to see if anyone has tried it out yet. I see its 8 ohms though, so I am not sure if it will be loud enough:

Thoughts?

The other option I was considering was disconnecting the factory sub, and somehow putting this on top of it, or in its place. It generally retails for 150 or so:

I assume that you are intending on installing the driver in the factory sub enclosure, if that is the case then you are going to have to an issue with mounting depth of the driver. I posted dimensions here, for some reason a handful of my attachments are not working since recent vB upgrade. You will need to make your own adapter plate to act as a sufficient spacer.

Well it sounds better then stock for sure. I am using the factory amp, IMO its not strong enough to get everything out of the subwoofer, but I don't want to remove the factory amp lol

I was considering it, but I don't like hacking up factory stuff, I am a plug and play type of guy. That said, the factory amp is a 5 channel unit, 25x4, and 50x1 I believe. Those should be peak ratings, RMS would be lower. Leaves a lot to be desired. There aren't many 5 channel amps though, and I have yet to find a 5 channel amp that I think would fit under the factory seat.

Hurrakaine,

So for the JL 5x7 .. it's pretty much just a drop in speaker? No mods to be done? Fits well? I am thinking to get the same sub.. I may still opt for the wicked CAS box.. I would just like a bit of bass... I know anything is better than my blown stock paper speakers.. lol

thanks !

The JL drops right in if I remember correctly. The problem with mine though, with the factory subwoofer cover on, the excursion from the woofer hit the cover... My cover is off right now. Somehow I need to put the cover on, but it needs to sit up a bit so it doesn't come in contact with the subwoofer..... Does that make sense?

Yup make sense! Thanks for the feed back!

From another thread:

Alright here it is, the right side is where I trimmed the shit of the support. You can make it look pretty than that, but now it fits without having to use that spacer, and now you can use the stock cover without the sub hitting part of it with the spacer installed. Tomorrow I'm go find me some of that foam tape and do the underside so it gets a nice seal.

^^ I bought the soundstream speaker (5x7).. I'll post my review once I have installed it.

I recently replaced my 5x7 with an aftermarket option, and unsoldered the tweeter.

I have tightened all of the screws to avoid any undue noises, but it sounds like there is some kind of rattle or reverberation, and it wont go away unless I hold a large rag over the sub cover with a bit of force.

Im wondering if people put a bead of sealant around the cones flange to stop air leaking past?

Any updates on how good this Soundstream compares to the JL 5x7?

Zorglub....did the Soundstream just drop right in or did you have to do any trimming?

Stock vs Sound Stream Sub.

My personal Review:

The Sound Stream Subwoofer.... hmmmm It's just "OK" and kinda "meh" lol If you need to replace the stock sub woofer this would be ideal. It's very inexpensive. I would not expect much out of this sub.

I think the problem with my system now is that my Front and Rear speakers are much better quality and produces better sounds even mid bass it makes the Subwoofer sound like crap to be honest. I have turned down the sensitivity on my amp because the sub can not produce a nice clean "thump" like my mids do.

I have never heard the JL audio 5x7 subwoofer so I cannot comment much but it MIGHT sound better than the sound stream. The best bet is to really replace that 5x7 sub with a real subwoofer 8", 10" or 12". I do plan to do that in the future.
