Hey guys i wanted to ask all of you a question. (now yes i did a search and i didnt find the answer i needed, so now im asking all of you geniouses).

I have a slightly modded Automatic MK3 and i wanted to go tune it, however the one thing i still have is the stock ECU in there and the stock Injectors. However i do have the following things done to the car......

New Head (from toyota)
Headgasket with ARP Studs
New CT26 turbo with a 60-1 Housing
New Alternator, Timing belt, water pump
Walboro 255 Fuel Pump
Greddy Type S BC
Boost Gague
HKS SSQ BOV
Super Dragger Exhaust & Downpipe
AEM Ugeo Wideband
AFC NEO *the newest one*

Bottom line is i dont want to have to go out and buy an AEM Stand alone because for 1 they are way too expensive, but for the power that im making right now i just dont see the point. Is there something out there that is as good or better for tuning purposes?? Im trying to get it tuned this weekend and i wanted some opinions from the rest of the experts with Mk3's.... THANKS!!

afc neo will work fine.. or you could sell the afc neo and get a maftpro and get rid of the afm..

i was also looking into a new ecu for my mk3. although i already have a safc 1 with lexus and 550's. but on cold nights i still hit fuel cut at about 12-14 psi. so the stock ecu can suck my balls.

what is everyone's opinion on the Map ecu? how is it to tune? does it do timing? i assume it gets rid of fuel cut and the afm? i work at a shop and we have a dynojet so tuning won't be a problem. i was going to go with a full on standalone called megasquirt on this project but i got screwed. so now i'm looking into other reasonably priced alternatives.

not quite ready to plop down over a grand for a microtech or haltech just yet.

MAFT pro is the way to go if your not wanting to go stand alone, you can run speed density, it has options for timing controll, boost controll basically its as close to stand alone as you can get without going stand alone. The only problems i have heard is people still hitting fuel cut problems at around 25 psi. Malloynx put down 543rwhp with and MAFT pro. Search MAFT pro and read up about it.

keep an eye out for a mines or a superchips ecu. those are pretty nice over all after i recently installed one for my brothers car.

If I were you with your light mods, I would buy a lexus AFM (to raise the fuel cut) and tune with your AFC. At least that would be a good starting point for you...I'm currently making 511rwhp with the LEX/AFC.

Speed density? I don't get it... not trying to sound sarcastic, I really don't understand.

Bill- I don't believe MAP ECU offers timing control, HOWEVER MAP ECU 2 is coming out shortly www.mapecu.com. Ignition Control, Electronic Boost Control, OEM O2 Adjust, Auxiliary Injector support, Launch Control, Fuel Cut Defender, Speed Cut Defender and Dual Tables yadda yadda.

TTSupraFanatic- Everyone that posted pretty much summed it up for you. If you're going to be keeping the stock afm or lex, then stick with the S-AFC. It's easy to use and can be used with a few other piggy backs that eliminate the afm (ie, vpc) As you stated before, AEM is quite a bit more expensive than the other options but it all ultimately depends on what you want to do with the car. If you're planning on big numbers and want a reliable ecu that does just about everything, then AEM is definitely an option. Some people spend huge money on piggy backs and aren't satisfied and end up spending close to what an AEM would have cost originally.
