Just wanted to know with the traction fuse pulled how fast could a BPU or BPU+++ Supra do Top Speed.

Just curious I searched and could not find any info.

Thanks in Advance.

There is no limit with the fuse pulled. So it comes down to how much power your making I suppose. I've hit 170 and I don't have a boost controller. I only run 100 octane and its never been tuned. Just to give you an idea.

Yes, I did ~185 MPH back in 1997 with my first Supra at BPU level (straight BPU no +++). I had some race gas in the tank. It was a 1994 auto BPU. The car was still pulling slowly but there was a turn coming so I let off.

i hit 280 km/h in my BPU+++ 6 speed a couple years ago, it still had plenty more left but i let off.

heres where i did it... was at about 160 off the turn of highway 99 and pinned it, was at 280 way before king george highway.

i later realized there was a nail in one of my rear tires during this run
i'll never try going that fast ever again, usually shut it down at anything near 200, im not as invincible as i used to be when i was younger.

Haha, I know where that is. That's moving. I've done about 250km/h up the Coquihalla... but I agree, it's not worth it anymore on the roads.

It'll take a while to get there, but you'll at least get close. I made it to 154 in my stock Supra, but it took ages and a long strip of tarmac to get up to that speed while allowing enough time to brake before the dirt. At BPU+++ it'll break 180, but it won't accelerate quickly to that speed.

The 150+ runs I did taught me that I need suspension and downforce before I'll do it again. The car felt way too squirrely at that speed... not nice and planted like it feels in the 120-130 range. Be careful on stock suspension at those speeds.

Good to know wanted to know as I would like to try the Texas Mile one day and I am not on stock suspension. For know I have springs/shocks but its good to know what the potential of our car's is even if we never find out or we try in a sanctioned event.

The Supra does feel very relaxed at 120-130mph, it's amazing.

my car was cold chillen' at 280 km/h... could have easily stayed on the gas until my speedometer pegged but thoughts of my body being shredded in the wreckage and my parents not being able to show a body at the funeral started to set in :gapteeth:

i personally wont try it again, but if anyone local with a BPU/ Canadian spec or American spec car wants to try a top speed run on hwy 99, ill be more than happy to come out with you and film it.

I've hit 180 several times and that being with 390 hp@the flywheel. J-spec 6sp all stock except fuel pump and decat. 1.1-1.2 bar aprox. So BPU (BPU++++ is rather a vague term, isn't it?)

I will go further than that but it starts to slow in accel around there and things are really scary. This being on the german autobahn. It usually gets freaky @ 170 but with an empty straight you can push on. It's just soooo rare these days to find it. In general all is really good from 120-155. After that you start to feel the speed no matter how good the road is.

here is the math to figure how much flywheel hp you need to get to x mph:
Image

Wsupra = weight. Mine is 3440 with half a tank.
V = mph you want to calculate from
Fa is frontal area = 20,75 sq.ft for the supra
Cd is Cw = 0.32 for the soop
Ptrans is the power loss through the transmission. I've used both 15% and 17% in my calculations

Here is an example:
((22,155 bhp)+(291,686))*1,205 (at 17 % Ptrans ) = 378 bph v/186mph/301 kph
((22,155 bhp)+(291,686))*1,3 (at 23 % Ptrans) = 408 bhp v/186ph/301kph

So 180mph is the highest so far wow its amazes me that a 17yr Old car can have such great potential and High Speed. But then again the Supra ain't no Regular car is it.

I hit around 170-175 in my old 1994 Turbo Auto car, that was BCC, Boost Controller, DP, Exhaust, FMIC, whatever-you-want-to-call-it-BPU+. Car was stock auto, just bolt-ons, and would really move out. I believe that it did 416 at the wheels, at 17psi. Pretty stout for an auto car with not that much money into it.

(Now, when it was singled, it was a different story, as well as my current singled car.)

Stock, the engine oil runs 130 degrees c + when running 120mph+ for extended periods. On a j-spec. US spec also gets not, but don't know exactly how much.
I installed a HKS oil cooler/ relocation kit. Now it's just over 100 when it really gets the hammer.. Now, the j-spec doesnt have the scoop. Thats my maintenance concern now...

Don't think tranny cooler is that nessesary if you are not spending the whole day gunning it.. But I just saw 130c + after 120mph+ for a few minutes. For a single pull, you might be ok, and the US spec does have better cooling than j-spec. I also got my cooler for track driving on the nĂĽrburgring. After half a lap oil was waaaay hot

0.9BAR of boost? Isn't that like 13-14psi?

#26 ·
14.5 psi/bar X 0.9 bar = 13.05 psi

Hit almost 170 when I was BPU + but the speed took too long to advance any further, so I went single ;)

now you hit 170 with ease.... ^^^ Well, let me tell you.. coming from an STi... I doubt the Supra takes too long to hit 170mph. I know if I tried that in the STi.... the STi would take twice as long to get to 170mph if it even gets there! LOL
