What gives with this venue? First cancel all events at Firebird in Az., the upcoming at CO. and UT. as well. It was bad enough letting domestics in to race a while back now the icing is on the cake.

The thought process behind this bullshit is beyond me.

With the amount of money they charge all of us INCLUDING spectators, their pockets should be deep enough.
I vividly remember having a valid question for one of the judges the last time they came to Firebird here in Az. He specifically told me, " Man, I don't get paid for being here. I've been a part of NOPI for many years and I'm just here for the travel and fun."

My case is, where does all this money go? Where is the loyalty?

NOPI events here in MD have fallen apart also...its not the same as it used to be...everyone i knew used to go to NOPI events...now a days...everyone i know doesnt go because they know how NOPI has gone to shit basically...i dont go to nopi events anymore...they just arent worth it...there are only a few events that a worth it over here now...battle of the imports...and imports vs domestics...those are the only 2 worth my time from what i can see...its sad...

Actually our maryland event was the best one so far this year... I am interested to see what the deal is as well since I work those events and that was a very last minute decision...

i dont get it...i think nopi has failed since they lost there xbox sponsor...its a shame...but these events used to be fun to go to...not anymore...hopefully something happens with the import community and it picks up...there are so many rules now also to run at nopi....engine diaper, loops, scatter shields, fuel sampeler, etc etc...i mean i know its safe racing but...i dont remember this stuff 2-3 years ago...i was debating setting something up myself but now a days its such a pita and u dont know how many people your going to get...the local track rentals we have are better than any nopi event i think, all of your friends together and racing and they dont care about roll cages and all the tech stuff...they are very lenient when it comes to a track rental...yes its 100$ atleast per car racing but its much more enjoyable...just my 2 cents...

btw jessica u coming up to MIR in july with titan? Bottle told me they all were coming up to MIR in July

Import racing is over....it's been on the decline for 4-5 years now, ever since it quit being a "Grassroots" type of event where locals could compete and the big dollars came into play. That pretty much ruined the sport.

I concur. You need ALOT of money these days to even compete, and that's with any type of racing event/series. The days of Tran, JG, Kubo, L'Natural and the likes have long gone... Rado still does his thing, but that's where the money is...

Import drag racing has fallen through out the years! There's far more attention to the Domestic crowd, the payouts are far more juicy, not to mention the attendance, wich is incredible!
That's the main reason why Nopi merged with NHRA, but they still don't have it!
And they probably never will!

Ask Nero, he rather race 1/8mile ADRL than 1/4mile with NOPI ( the payouts are way better, and the crowds are larger!)

#12 ·
Not to mention 1/8 mile is where all the real racing is and you can somewhat be "grassroots" in. We all know 97% of imports are top end which is why they don't go compete in 1/8 mile where the real money and competition is these days.

It's the whole scene itself, all of the ricers and tool boxes have ruined it.

Back in the day when you had people that were dedicated to just having a fast car or street car, and they were getting exposure plus having fun, it was awesome. Now it's too political, HIN is a worthless piece of trash now too, where does all that money go?

It's like $25 to go in and look at a few cars, you have to be shitting me, because they charge the car owners and vendors money too, it's a joke.

Fortunately, I think it will weed out all of the fan boys and let the true hardcore people that were here before, still be here and enjoy it

And now it appears HIN has gone the way of the dodo bird ... bye greedy assholes!

2 canceled shows in a row!

Guys there still hope! the only real import race and the biggest payout in import racing is still held once a year at the Pan American Nationals held at Atco Raceway since more than 12 years ago,

I can tell you guys one thing, NOPI, NHRA, BOTI, or any other organisation cant come and tell us were or when to run our imports or make it less wanted for the sponsors they are just trying to shut us down and we cant let that happen, if we the Puertoricans from the USA can have the biggest payout in the import race scene in the USA once a year i am prety sure the import drag racers from USA can do better people,

Just get to Atco Race Way on July 18 tru 20 and try to qualify last year the bump was at 7.3 in the 1/4 mile and qualify for team USA the Puertoricans will do the same for team Puerto Rico first place will pay 10 G's and it is in a bracket layout racing, 32 car field 16 from usa 16 from Puerto Rico see you there Brent Rau is confirmed already as well as Dee Caragiannis also Chriss Rado may go as well as some of the cobalt guys!

These threads and comments crack me up. Most everyone who complains or bitc#$! about the Rules, racing, etc etc Are the ones who dont race and never raced at their events. Or they are looking to show up and race and expect not to have any safety equipment on them or their car. Or think a helmet should be good to run 8,9s, and 10s lol The rules and safety equipment rules have ALWAYS been there. Its just 2-3 -4 years ago cars in lots of classes were running 12s, 11s, 10s, and the fast one were high 9s . Now the classes are getting in low 8s in the street classes and high 9s is becoming the norm in most street classes.

So obviously the rules for safety have also increased for the faster cars. But the rules are the same for the 12, 11, 10 sec cars as it was 2.3,4 years ago. Just because tracks are cracking down a little more now doesnt mean the rules have been changed or were not there few years ago. The ones who truly race and have been racing their series, or want to continue racing have evolved with it. The ones who havnt or are "bench, internet " racers just complain every race or every year about rules or turnouts etc.

Its crazy..some can spend money and take time to build 800-1000hp cars....yet complain when having to put safety stuff on them or their car if they want to race it. IMHO those are the ones who really do not understand how much power that is and really dont understand how much they would need that stuff if they wrecked.

IMHO the rules keep the idiots from racing and off the track. If you cant comprehend why the rules are there, you should not be on the track and racing.

Its pretty simple. You guys want more people there ....show up and watch and support the ones racing. If you want more filled race classes...get the safety stuff and do it right and show up and race. At least put enough in you and car to go run some 10s in the class and have some fun. Dont have to run 8s or full boost. Turn it down. Do whatever you got to do to have fun. Instead of crying on forums and internet. I mean All the honda guys on much less of a budget then most supra guys can get it done and go race and go watch. They dont complain. Maybe thats why they are faster then 95% of Supras on thsi forum anyhow :) Just my .02

This was probably one of the better post that i have read on the forums in a long time. Tony you are 100% correct on your post. Most don't understand why this safety equipment is made mandatory until you have been in a wreck and all the safety equipment saves you from getting seriously injured.

I was one of the ones who did not want so much safety equipment in my car. Now after slapping the wall pretty hard and all the safety equipment working the way it was supposed to i will never race a fast car without the right equipment.

For once I agree with Tony, some one shoot me.

If you're going to build a car for the track, make sure it fits in all sanctioning rules.

I, for one, agree with yearly rule changes, due to cars getting faster and faster every year.

But mid season changes, I don't agree with.

Technology advances, so must rules.

I've known the Meyers family for 20 years now (for those that don't know, that's who runs NOPI). It started when I was in high school picking up parts that my boss would order from them (almost exclusively VW stuff back then). That was my introduction to the greed and drive that made them tick...

The problem is, and always will be, Michael Meyers running the show. He learned to lead this company by accident! This whole thing essentially fell into his hands as NOPI grew from a VW parts house to an international mail order company. They aren't hurting for cash, they're just greedy. And he's arrogant as hell to boot.

I'm not going to just sit and rail on these guys and be an Internet bad ass but the people that know, know the problem. The ones on the outside are left to scratch their heads when these events go off like shit, or get canceled.

There are good people left at NOPI, although most of the talent they HAD, has moved on to bigger and better things. Actually, now that I think about who's left, there's about two people there that still give a shit. Unfortunately, they have little power and will likely never motivate the leadership there to change.

I think NOPI is a joke. They let domestics in as a last ditch effort to stay in business. Its retarded we can't have an import only venue available to us. At the NOPI nats at etown this year all I wanted to do was run brackets and they refused to sell me a bracket card because they claimed at the gate they were overflowing with bracket cars and had no more room for anyone else. I bought a test and tune ticket for somewhere around 75 bucks and they told me there was a chance I would get no passes and no refund if I didn't get any. I get in the door and there was about 30 cars in all the brackets classes total. It has nothing to do with the safety equipment as far as my experience is concerned, they are just flat out, blatent jerks to the little guy and offer no incentive for people like me to come out and race with the treatment they give.

ttsc300, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Agreed!! Nopi went down hill after 2006 season... Best racing to date since I've participated in import racing. That is when a street classes went to pro classes. Hence the last year I raced in the series.

I know some on here are stuck in some kind of a time warp... racing is nowhere near what it use to be back 3-4 years ago!! :wavey:

From another site:

July 16, 2008 It is with great regret that NOPI Motorsports, LLC has suspended operations for the summer and fall 2008. This will include NOPI Drag Racing Series, NOPI Drift Series and the NOPI NATIONALS Motorsports Supershow. The company is undergoing an organizational restructuring in light of severe adverse affects of a disappointing spring season. The economy and unfavorable weather resulted in underperformance of all spring events. Michael Meyers, president of NOPI Motorsports, reports that NOPI Motorsports is working with its clients and sponsors to minimize the uncertainty going forward. This is a reflection of the economic times in which we currently live. The countrywide economic and industry downturn has caused a slowdown and tightening of belts. This affects everyone and companies, at all levels, and NOPI Motorsports is no different.

We understand the position this puts everyone in and we hope you can find in your heart to work with us through this terrible time. All of you are our friends and we have felt for many years that we were all a big family.

NOPI Motorsports hates this more than anyone as the many years of hard work, tradition and an industry we helped to shape would come to this.

Please watch nopi.com for future announcements.
