I didnt even know that 2j's came with hydro fans. IMO i like that my 1jz has a mechanical pump simply because there is just less clutter, but i have no experiences with the hydro pump so i cannot form an opinion on it.

 

Hydro pumps are standard for Aristo 2JZ engines. If you do not have the hydro-fan ECU, it's not worth keeping. I've always replaced with the US mechanical as well.

You can route it to itself, if you use some aftermarket electrical fans.

 

same here, i was always under the impression that 1JZ = hydraulic and 2JZ = mechanical

i haven't had any problems with my hydro fan but i've always thought it would be funny to paint the cap black and have someone with good handwriting write "USE JDM BLINKER FLUID ONLY"

 

Its just like the 1JZ, they came in both mechanical and hydro pump setups. The aristo had hydro pumps and you can use a JZA70 hydro fan with the aristo setup. You can also use a 7MGE power steering resivoir for the hydro pump resivoir.

I have always liked the hydro fan and it pulls alot more air then the clutch fans =D

1JZ-GTE in Everything else = Clutch Fan
2JZ-GTE in Supra = Clutch Fan

dont forget all the 1jzgte JZX90's have hydro fans also even some 100's

 

thanks for the incite btw i have the ecu that came with the engine... will this be a problem using the mechanical pump? will i run a check engine light? or when i send my wiring harnesses out to dr tweak, can he wire these up correctly?

 

you won't have any issues, the hydrofan uses its own controller so there won't be any CEL or issues if you use the mechanical one

i only know this applies to a 1JZ, i can only assume the same for a 2JZ

 

Yes the fan control computer is separate on Aristos as well as the Supra JZA70.

well since im not going to use the hydro fan would anybody like to purchase it from me? also going to have a 7mgte for sale here in the next couple of months and i have alot of spare parts for the 7m two heads one might have bent valves. i also have a w58 full tranny for sale cluth flywheel pressure plate whole thing shifter anyone?

If I get the 1J that has the clutch fan, could I just unbold the fan, & leave the pulley on & be fine? My plan is to run dual 12" electric fans w/ a thicker aftermarket radiator.

 

stick to the mechanical fan/ clutch fan. You will have issues with overheating with electric fans. It's not worth it. You can also run a 7M radiator (stock) and use the 7M shroud. Use a 2jzgte fan and clutch and drive it care free all year round since you live in Cali.

 

quick question.
Can I use the stock 1jz hydro fan on my 87 Ive heard I have to switch?..... I also have a 92 same question applies. I find alot of conflicting information most of it seems to be centered around people/s hydrofans unreliability or just want to swap to clutch type.
