I'm not sure where to post this, but i drive an MK4; so i supposed i should post here.

My IPASS (the thing for Illinois tollway automatic paying things) does not work with my supra. It would work on other cars, but just would not work.

Anyone in Illinois having the same problems with their I-Pass?

Houston has the same setup. I never had any problems, maybe your going too fast!

Even when i'm travelling through the automatic station at 1mph, it still would not read my IPASS... sometimes it does, but 9 times out of 10 it doesn't.

I hold it up to the windshield right under the rearview mirror

Are you holding it so the whole plastic surface is in direct contact with the windsheild? or are you holding it with your fingertips not allowing the plastic cover to contact the windshield?

Try holding it outside the driver's side window, see if that works. Just dont drop it.

I've tried holding it up while touching the windshield, and without. i've also tried it waving it or extending my arm outside the car.

Today i drove my friend's E46 M3 and the IPASS did not work on his car, maybe it just got busted at a bad time. I remember when it worked on my SLK, and that was not too long ago...

anyone know if they're battery operated?

yeah the batteries should last a long time, and its only been around a year and a half.

Thanks for the input guys, i will have to send it in to get it repaired.

I had one in PA, they call it EZPass, and I didn't realize that the battery must have crapped out after a lot less than one year so I kept using it, then one day more than 20 notices arrived in the mail from PennDOT saying I was not paying tolls and I owed them the tolls plus fines, a few hundred bucks. So the burden to straighten out their F**K UP was on me. I won't use that piece of crap again it's more trouble than it's worth to me.

Luckily in illinois if you are a registered Ipass user and you dont even have on in your car you can still use the automatic (non gated) lane and when the fine comes just tell them the Ipass was in the wrong spot or it didnt work. Then all you have to do is pay the tolls and the fines are erased.

Trust me I have done it on over 20 tolls to date.

FYI theres a big ipass headquaters or something right off of 88 and I believe rossevelt RD. coming from 88 gust get off on Rossevelt and turn left.. its right by the ramp for 355 and all that jazz. It might beat sending it in if they can look at it right away and determine whats up.

The simple anwser to your question is .. no.. there is no reason why it shouldnt work. I have one mounted to my windsheild right behind the mirror (mkiv) and it works perfectly every time.

Well i'm glad i won't be fined for being a registered I-PASS user. When i have the time i should just drive to the headquarters (i live really close to I-88/Roosevelt Rd.) and get the unit fixed/replaced
