kazoo sound under hood

Ok, well where do i start... 5300 on rebuild, new everything, bla bla bla, the important thing is the turbo was rebuilt when i did the engine, no shaft play. So now the car wont boost and there is a definite kazoo sound to it, im assuming its the turbo(checked for vacume leaks and broken or disconnected vacum lines and intecrooler piping). It runs great, idles perfect, no burning oil out of the exaust so no signs except shaft play now, probably about 1mm vertacally but none horizontally. So i guess my question is will it hurt to run on a broken turbo? Isnt a broken turbo supposed to burn oil? and does anyone have a stock turbo in ok condition to sell me? Thanks! I really appreciate it!

that is your turbo making that noise. mine did that. check all your pipes and accordian intake for holes or looseness also mine was because the turbo came somewhat loose from the manifold and dp elbow the nuts came loose.the noise is from the turbine spinning through the exhaust or intake side. something is loose.but it is probably the turbo loose on the exhaust side.

how could i fix that? Just tighten the bolt on the shaft? and are the torque specs in the TSRM?

No he's not talking about the turbo itself. You need to go in and check all your bolts where it fastens to the manifold as well as the turbo elbow. You will hear taht whine/kazoo noise as you call it if the turbo is not tightly secured to the manifold or the manifold bolts themselves are loose. After a rebuild I have seen that happen quite a big on fresh rebuilds. Check all those bolts and get them secure and see what happens. The amount of play you are talking about isn't anything I would be too terribly worried about.

No sorry, no kazoo's i checked, all vacume leaks are ruled out, checked damn near everything(i could see) and remembered about. Ill try tightening the bolts but i really dont see how that would affect it, there are no exaust leaks under the hood it too quiet for that i think but ill try it!

I always wanted to put one of those party noisemakers on my BOV. ;)

Anyone tried this?

yeah but you don't notice an exhaust leak.trust me. it happenes to me. it's just enough to piss you off. you have to take off the turbo heat sheild to get to the bolts. 4 on the tubo to manifold and four on the turbo to dp elbow.
