US import.

Better bang for buck.

You can get a tidy TT Auto for less than $20k if you look around.

JDM cars are usually 10-15k and beat to all hell.

There are exceptions to the rules though.

Also, US cars make more power from factory.

Hello everyone, I am pretty much addicted to Supras, and I was wondering what the best course is too take. I would really like a twin turbo but they get fairly pricey fast. I live in Vancouver BC Canada, so my options are local, import(Japan) and import(USA). I just wanted to know the pros and cons from something other than Yahoo answers.

Thanks,
Jake
Show up to this Supra event and you may see a few for sale too. Maybe MKIV or MKIII, built and stock.

All JDM cars are beat to hell, heh right... don't know which ones you've been looking at. That's what research is for, it's not hard to find nice and clean ones.

And a Supra TT for 10k is either going to be rebuilt, earliest model, and higher KM's, or the beat up JDM that they call it.
Don't forget you need to pay 18% on top of what the car was bought for and shipping is $1000.

jackers111, if you have the money and can afford to pay $24k +, go with the US model...

If you don't want to blow that much cash, you can roughly look to spend between $12-16k for a nice 6 speed twin turbo Supra from Japan with great mileage... basically you're saving 10 grand.

What he said^
and there isn't anything wrong with buying a beat up car, just as long as you fix it up and get it looking nice :) but might as well save yourself some money and buy a clean one right away.

I don't know but doesn't sound like your that old, maybe it's just me.

I think if you gave us your budget it will be easier to recommend something for you.

I'm quite young myself and couldn't exactly afford to buy a 6-speed TT, so I just ended up getting the 5-speed NA (RHD). I actually picked it up from the port, not even registered yet.
There is no comparing the non-turbo to turbo, but the NA is still a really quick and a blast to drive.

start looking at craigslist for all the major west coast cities, mainly california, theres tons down there.
and obviously the for sale section here.

go with LHD and keep our domestic MKIV market alive :bigthumb:

like I told a buddy before, look look look and you will find it sooner than later. It took me a full year until i stumbled across mine. My buddy who is younger wanted one bad, i told him to keep looking as he was kinda in the same situation you where in, he found a couple, they where out of his range and than pretty much a year later, he fluked out and found one 15 minutes across the border.

Set your budget and requirements and stay within them, you will find one

Step 1: Figure out exactly how much you can spend.

Step 2: Determine the median price for each market you are looking at.

Step 3: Determine what your perfect car, with options would be.

Step 4: Combine all of the above and start shopping in the market, and budget range.

Some things to remember. Already imported cars will generally be cheaper because you do not have to pay the import, duty taxes which are associated to them. Top quality JDM's are harder to find, but are out there. The same rule applies to USDM cars, there are just more to choose from. In the end you get what you pay for. You will pay more for a USDM/CDN car versus a JDM, determine if it is worth it for YOU. Who cares what anyone else thinks, you have to drive there car. There are many supporters, and an equal amount of haters out there. Remember that the resale value of a JDM is going to be much lower than a USDM.

Ok thanks for all the tips, I am starting to work this summer and I plan on saving at least 95% of the money that I earn in the next 2.5-3 years for a Supra. So I could drive one by the grade 12 year. I am looking at making anywhere from $25000-$29000.

anyways, for people that care to answer, how much leg room does the supra have, I am 15 and pushing 6'4'' so I only assume I will get taller probably to about the 6'6'' mark or something like that. I know most cars start getting small when your that tall but I was just wondering.

Thanks,
Jake

My friends around that height and I'm shorter but he is kind of tight in it. But yeah your young if you want to get a Supra I hope get one but I know when I was your age I was deciding between like a whole bunch of other vehicles too hell I didn't even have a license back than. But it's up to you so GL on whatever your choice is.

supra's were straight up built with small japanese people in mind, the interior is small... ive got a buddy whose 6'2" pushing 300 lbs, he claims hes "comfortable" in the passenger seat just because he likes riding in the car... but i can tell hes SUPER uncomfortable and he has to sit all awkward, even with the seat pushed all the way back.

i had a c5 vette when i was 17 and it was WAY roomier than my supras.

It is pretty awkward being 6'4'' at school chicks in grade 12 walk up and ask why i'm talking to guys in grade 10 haha or at the barber he was trying to make smalltalk so it eventually led to what i do for ....fml. But the best is getting hit on by older chicks when your with your friends. hahaha

Exactly^

I mean that usually at that age the thinking is unrealistic, for example... a couple years ago still in high school I had zero money and I'm like yeah I'm just going to save up and buy a Supra from the states (which was like 30k)... and doesn't just happen like that.

So when I was down to the point of doing research to find a car I could only get the NA.

I am plenty young myself, would love to have the best but doesn't just work like that... + single turbo in a couple months ;)

This is why I slightly regret posting in the first place, there is a terrible stereotype that teenagers can't make decisions for themselves and it really annoys me. But thanks for the help anyways.

PS I have about $8000 saved for this so its not like I am talking with no money, Im just talking with too little money.

Maybe show up at the meet and get more feedback. If you start knowing more before you buy it, the better off you are. :)

Well, you are young and sure, you can make your own decisions. Sometimes many may need guidance as they don't have the life experience as the other wanting to help has.
