Ok....My next project. A custom speaker box. It will replace the rear seats in my MK3 and will also hopefully NOT look like a speaker box.

Here is the goal:

And here is the starting point:

Here we go....

Step one...remove the rear seats.

These are useless to me in my MK3.

Here is what the interior looks like now.....

Notice I removed the rear seat brackets and such. For some reason, I cant get the seatbelts out.....are they welded in??

No they're not welded in I replaced mine on the drivers side there's a bolt down by where your feet would be if you're sitting in the back seat and the plstic piece by your head had two screws in it then remove the interior piece and the retractable part of the seat belt has two bolts in it,

Hope this helps.

looks like you're moving right along. I'm attempting to do same thing. i'm trying to keep a photo diary of it all but haven't been able to move along due to lack of cash and materials. isn't that usually the case?! Anyway keep at it. Make sure you use something to protect your paint from resin if you doing a fiberglass box. i'm using Mylar film...The same plastic wrap that florists use to wrap bouques in.

looking good.... I wouldn't have used it though..

Isn't that green colored fiberboard used for speaker enclosures for sound quality? but it does look conforming. ish... just cover em up, and the covers will help make shape.

Not trying to knock you but you should really use MDF board and not press board for speaker boxes... they will hit much harder!!! and are your speakers going to be sealed cause it doesn't look like you will have room behind the face.

Just trying to help.... on a good note, looks good, and is going to be a huge improvement from stock. I also put my sub were the rear seat was, I love it. :D

I dont think hes going to be going into competitions, sure mdf is the best and also will sound the best but it does weigh a ton especially if your using 3/4 inch.... It looks like hes using pretty small subs possibly 8-10's so i think it will be fine as long as its all sealed corectly and bolted in right i dont think it will be that bad..cheers..

LOL....Im not even close to finishing guys. The speakers are NOT going on the back piece. They will have thier own REMOVABLE boxes.

Here is that piece vinyl wraped and in the car.

This is just the start. I spent about 4 hours in the hot summer sun today doing this. Ill continue tomorrow.

To give you a clear idea of where I am going with this. The GREEN is the MDF board.

Image

The red denotes where the speaker boxes will be. The bottom of boxes will utilize the bottom clips from the origional rear seats. The top will be held in with magnents. This will make the box strong and removable.

Cheers
