Also the dude who tried comparing the MKIV supra as being "like a fox body mustang" is a complete automotive fool.

For starters IRS vs. solid rear axel. Just a tiny tiny difference. You know....since apparently the MKIV supra was a purpose built drag car to most of these people.

*ahhh*

As opposed to the plethora of idiots here who consistantly compare the corvette to the mustang?

The target market of the Toyota MKIV Supra as reflected by it's price was NOT to compete with the Lambo, Ferrari, and other exotic market. It was priced to compete against cars like Corvettes, 3000GT, 300ZX, RX-7, maybe NSX, perhaps Viper, maybe even the old Porsche 911 (although that's a price stretch). Consider it against those cars of the time and see if you still think it's "overrated". Heck, even consider it against cars that now fall into that target market today and it STILL holds it's own if not shames a majority of them.

Maybe I'm off base here but isn't the GTR rather expensive? I would imagine to walk off the lot with one would probably run me 85-90k. It just seems to me that it's more likely to be compared against exotic cars. That's not to belittle the car either. I think it's actually a very good deal for the amount of car you get.

I think this quote from the August 1993 Motor Trend article sums it up pretty well.
The surprise player in this group is the Supra Turbo. Shedding its former GT-cruiser image for hard-core sports-car muscle, this machine does what few cars in history have been able to accomplish: combine exotic car performance with luxo-coupe grace and deliver it all at a price that won't cause angina pectois. Though the fabulous Mazda RX-7 took home the best-buy trophy, the Supra was consistently at or near the top for the other subjective scoring categories.

Stretching the 30-something price of entry to its upper limit, the Supra is assuredly not a bargain basement automobile. However, when you consider it's phenomenally well-rounded performance abilities, cushy ride and comfort paybacks, and the casual, quiet, confident manner in which it does literally everthing, there's little else to quarrel about. The ante to compete in the world's order of ultra-performance cars has just been raised. The Toyota Supra Turbo is the new Top Gun.
Article courtesy of MKIV.com. Some of these ignorant individuals would do well to read more instead of basing there flawed opinions on youtube videos and forum talk. The spec sheets and tests from the 90's don't lie. The car was well built and one of the best cars of it's time and arguably the best car in the price range for quite some time. It also performed well in ALL AREAS. This is the one reason I wish the drag scene would die down a bit with the Supra, just so people would shut up about it.

PS: It's also interesting to me to take a look at THESE figures. Specifically the braking, lateral G's, and slalom. Funny how it ranks best in all categories even against a Porsche 911. Even more hilarious is that it's only mediocre in the speed and acceleration tests (aftermarket took care of that, lol).

Motherfucking WORD.

I am sick and tired of people assuming the MKIV can't handle. Is it heavy? Sure. Has a back seat? Yep. Don't see many at road courses? Nope. Hardly any. Does that mean they are shitty in the twisties? Of course not. Geezus, morons, do the math. 7000 or so turbo MKIVs were sold in the US and Canada. Figure half actually went to enthusiasts. Figure many have been wrecked since 1993. Figure many are kept original and in the hands of collectors. Figure a large percentage are just street cars. How many does that leave? Maybe 1000? 1000 or so MKIVs used for serious racing? Okay, now how many people want to risk trashing their rare MKIV on a road course? Not many. Drag racing is the cheaper and safer racing option for most people. The people who DO modify and road race their MKIVs do very well. The cars respond to handling mods like any other car, and the aftermarket is strong. Just because you see a gazillion dime-a-dozen cars at road courses and maybe one rare MKIV, doesn't mean that MKIVs only belong at drag strips.

Ask TwinsTurbo and GS Motorsports how well Supras can go around race tracks. :)

This vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjB5KGyqKeE is from this thread: http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=482041

Some time attack Supras right here: http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=459577

Couple the above with names and cars like Andi Baritchi, SupraGTR, Reg Riemer, SW, Greg Caloudas/Leh Keen, Curtis Chen, SKS, Paul Whiffin and others and you get my drift. The real irony is that a double wisbone, IRS car could become such a drag monster when it clearly was not intended to be. For you Supra history neophytes, please take the time to read through all the threads and links. You will be a better, more informed Supra aficionado and well armed for any "Supras can't handle" discussions.

Ken.

P.S. Notice who is doing all the passing in the time attack vids.

I don't understand why the GT-R fan-boys are making comparisons between 2 cars (Supra and R35) from a completely different era, aimed at completely different markets?

Whats next? Are they gonna start comparing their cars to the Ford Model-T and state how superior the GT-R is in every facet?

Why can't people just appreciate cars? Whether it's a Supra, GTR, EVO, STi, Cobra, Viper, STR-4, RSX, 4 cyl, 6cyl, 8cyl, s/c, t/c, n/a.... if it looks clean and performs well why is there a need for people to talk shit about it and always figure out ways it's not as good as the car they own?

People who say things like that are not car enthusiasts IMO.

Plus, I would hope a 2010 GTR would outperform a 1998 Supra stock for stock. If not, that would be pretty sad day at Nissan.
