so is this like your first complete rebuild? Looks good so far.
Actually, second. I did a subaru 2.5 RS with STI internals, I posted it somewhere around here.

I think that one might be the hx50 or 55 then, still the same CHRA as the 52, but different comp wheels and usually bigger turbine housings.

I hope I won't have fitment issues, but I wouldn't doubt it. This thing is huge. :)
It's definately not a HX50, it has a smaller compressor housing.

Also the Holset comes with a T4 like exhaust housing, it's called a H2. The pattern of the "mouth" is the same as a T4, but the bolt pattern is around 2-3mm off, so you will have to enlarge the holes.

A 20mm spacer and enlarging the bolt holes should make it fit snug. :)

Awesome, I'll check fitment. What turbine housing do you have? Mine's the 16cm^2, the smallest one they make for the turbo. I got it for better spool.

And installed the cleaned up pistons with new bearings and rings into the honed cylinder:

Old cruddy and oily piston rings (crappy pics):

Also, I figured that I may as well do a little overhaul on the interior:

So far, sooooo good. How much are you in to it now. I really don't care if you do go over the $1000 Mark by a bit. What you are doing to what other people spend is crazy. This reminds me of RIPS building a 9-Second RB30 Skyline for less than $10K. In the end it was them using what they got lying around in the shop, using their tools, and piecing together a Single Turbo setup on a RB30 mounted to a Long-nose Rail car. Sneaky blokes. Haha. Hope this project meets to what your aiming for.

Cheers,

Kirk

GTE Valve covers: $140
2jzgte OEM Headgasket: $95
JDM Aristo Intake manifold: $150
Holset HX-52: $150

Parts Sold (That I got with the purchase)

MKIV Resistor Box: +$70
GE PS Pump +$50
2JZGTE Igniter +$70
2jz-ge Valve Covers +$20
2jz-ge lower Intake manifold +20

Total Spent: $1338
Total Left: $0
Total Over Budget: $107

I'm actually not over budget yet, but I'm right on the edge. I still need around 200 bucks worth of parts, but Ill see if I can't make some money selling off some parts from the build I didn't use, like the GE head. Should still be pretty decent, as it's almost a brand new rebuilt GTE with big single for less than the price of a used JDM unit.

The pics in post 227 (painting block) those look like GE pistons, are you using those or GTE pistons?

thanks

GE pistons, I wanted the GE pistons because they bump up the compression a little bit for better spool on the large turbo. Plus they're free and in good condition (after an intensive cleanup).

You little shit!!!! You where the one to inpsire me to build one myself. I'm addicted now....I'm gonna have to bust you up on the Off Topic.....
Looks great!!!! However, I did paint my block silver first!!!!...COPYCAT, COPYCAT.....jk..

Good to know, thanks. But, how much boost you plan on running. or are you just going to have really lazy timing?

I plan on running close to 30psi. The comp ratio isn't that of a stock GE, I'm using the TT headgasket and the quench area is a bit more with the GTE head. It'll be around 9:1, which is exactly where I want it to be. Timing will be stock, as I don't have the timing harness for my emanage yet.
