almost sounds like a bad ground somewhere or battery cable, what do they look like?

 

Batt cables look great, I cleaned and tightned them down a couple weeks ago.

Would a bad ground cause 5 codes?

 

i'm basing that idea on a post i saw 3-4 weeks ago about codes cause i had weird codes pop up on mine (3 at once, reset and so far so good) but anyhow one of the replies noted a bunch of places there are grounds. i think any wiring problem can throw weird codes and it sounds to me like a good place to start for you because they aren't regular or consistant. good luck. maybe someone can remember the post i think i saw... something about grounding under fuse box, etc.

check your alternator fora bad diode too.... that could casue most of your symptoms. also check your battery, though I assume you've done that. I vote for diode or bad ground though.

 

Yea the alternator is brand new so that rules that possibility out eh?

Please don't tell us you mean to say you're not aware of what the diagnostic codes are... if this is the case, you'll get a quicker answer searching for "diagnostic codes" than by waiting for a reply..

They're also discussed in the SOGI tech-tips... or they were, at least.

I don't see any wiring diagrams or anything of use, I might have missed it though. I have already looked throught the tsrm and found the wiring diagrams but they don't show the actual locations of the wires

 

Would a bad ground have to cause a code? I ask b/c I think there may be one somewhere but can't find it and have no codes. I guess if it doesn't trigger more than a certain amount of time it won't store the code. Does anyone know if a bad ground will always trigger a code?

 

i wouldnt rule out a bad alternator just yet, my friend had a brand new alternator and his truck, yes i know its not a supra, but anyways it kept messing up, he tried everything to fix it and finally gave up and took it to a shop and the alternators voltage regulator was bad. hth

 

I dont know how many times I have been sold NA alternators for my turbo car.. THEY ARE DIFFERENT so check the part number on your alt. Some of those codes sound like a bad AFM to me.. just guessing.

 

also you will get a code 51 if you try to check the codes with the engine running.
