I own 2 Lexus SCs 1 with 1UZ + 1 with 2JZ, and I frequent the forums and facebook groups for parts and cool builds.
I don't like to blast people but my experience dealing with Alex Valdes, the owner of o.g.status was a huge waste of time.
I want to put the full story here so that people won't make the same mistake I did.

I'll try to keep this thread short, but the full email thread is available here for those who wants a really good read.
here's the cross reference link to the clublexus thread:

Why you should NEVER buy from Alex Valdes of Organized Garage Status aka o.g.status - ClubLexus - Lexus Forum Discussion

Many of you may know him, since he advertises heavily on instagram and facebook.
For those who don't know, this is Alex Valdes' business:

Back in 2020 September I got a quote for a full set of custom headlights with clear lens, morimoto retrofit, light smoked chrome paintjob + HID kit for a plug and play setup.
total agreed price was $1425 with my cores shipped to him. I put down $425 deposit and gave him the greenlight for a build.

2020 November, I bought a set of cores in a decent condition and then shipped them over to him.
I was told it should be ready in ~3 month.

2021 January, I was told he's starting to work on them in a week.
2021 March, I was told the darkened chrome paint scheme was not possible, the nightshade paint he used was too dark. I told him to just paint the housing silver.
2021 April, I was told the build is complete. Was shown a few photos

at first glace, doesn't look too bad.
but after looking at the pics more closely, the sealant was done poorly and overflowed all over the place.

I had compared to some other builds that looked much cleaner

With so much wait time, I didn't want to receive builds that had obvious visual flaws.

April 14th 2021

I asked Mr. Valdes to re-seal it in order to remove the overflowing glue, since I cannot accept the visual imperfection as is.
After a whole bunch of back and forth, he eventually agreed to rework the lights but he said he won't be able to give me warranty as a result.
I agreed and left it to him to reseal to clean up the overflow of sealant.
(if you want to read the entire exchange, look at the full thread)

2021 July, I asked if the touch-up has been completed. He said he'll be done in another couple of weeks since he's going on vacation.

At this time I was sick and tired of waiting since some of my refinish/mechanical to-do items on my SC were delayed as a result of the wait.
I decided to sent him $1000 and pay him in full so he can put my build touchup on higher priority.
He said he already opened up the housing and "cleaned up everything"

Couple of days later, I receive my lights. Broken on arrival and they look like this:

in short, they look like garbage, like someone's highschool art project...and he didn't fix jackshit.
there's no way I'm putting them on my car and I try to remain calm and started to file a claim with UPS since I'll give him the benefit of doubt that it was UPS that really broke the lights.

2021 August, I filed claim with UPS and they approved it in a week, but to continue they required input from the vendor.
I emailed him explaining what he needed to do to start the claim process on his end and Mr. Valdes did not respond for a week.
I was fed up at this point and wanted to wrap this up, so I decided send him a refund request for the full amount. Guy didn't respond for another week.
I decided to file a claim through paypal to get him to start the UPS claim process.
Paypal froze his account to force him to respond.
He then decided told me that either I wait for UPS to finish the claim for a full refund or if I go through Paypal, I'll get a partial refund but I'll have to send the lights back to him.
He asked me to cancel the claim and wait, but at this point I've waited 9 months....
I said I can wait until UPS pays him, but I won't be withdrawing the request until he sends me a full refund...and he said OK.

He then proceeds to cancel my refund request and let paypal dispute work its path.....
Unsurprisingly, Paypal asked me to send back the lights, but the cores cost me $300+ and I wasn't about to just give that up.
I explained to paypal that the purchase was a service not a product and Paypal said they'll refund me without me sending anything back.
Unfortuantely, paypal couldn't do anything about the $425 deposit because it was paid out over 180 days ago. I decided to wait until UPS pays him before I request for the final $425.

Septemeber 2021,
I get a call from UPS that they have processed the claim and sent out a cheque to the vendor. I waited another week for him to receive the check.
I then decided to write him the following:

Alex.

I'm going to try to wrap up our business transaction with this email.

UPS has paid out our claim. They called me before they sent out the claim cheque last monday. You should have gotten the cheque in the mail by now.
Now, You cancelled my request for a full refund and paypal facilitated a partial refund. At this point I'm short of $425 + broken cores.
What I am looking for from you at this point is a full refund. I'll take the broken core as a sunk cost.

You have two choices. I'll list them clearly below.

1. Accept my refund request through paypal and refund me $425 dollars exact on or before September 10th and we call it done. After which I will not be reaching out to you again over this matter and we move on with our lives.

2. You choose not to offer me the full refund by September 10th. This will lead to some consequences which I'll list that may negatively impact you and your business.
I will contract a collection agency to make a collection. You will have a limited time to pay the amount owing + collection fees. This may impact your personal credit score.
If you do not comply with the collection request, I will be reaching out to my lawyer to start a personal claim against you and your business.
The consequence of getting to this point means I am prepared to file a suit against you and your business to include the cost of lawyer fees and collection fees.
At the same time, I will be creating a detailed thread with regards to how the build went, and how our business transaction got to this point. I will be sharing it across multiple platforms that are easily accessible by google search.
I will be filing a complaint to the better business bureau aka BBB to record the business malpractice, which will be accessible to the general public as a public record.
I'd really hate to get to the point we have to go through #2. It's a small world and I have been around a long time but I prefer to keep a low profile. We actually know a lot of people in common.
I would rather not blast a fellow automotive enthusiast, but maybe if you put yourself in my shoes for a second you'd understand where I'm coming from.

I hope this email will help with your decision.

Best Regards,
Cody

The rest of his responses were almost comical:

From Him:

Good day Cody!
I hope all's well with you! I'd be more than happy to refund you the full amount and completely forget this ever happened.
Our company policy is for you to ship back the items for a full refund or send us photos of our products completely destroyed and in an unusable state.
We mainly want a photo of the lenses smashed or destroyed and we'll shoot you that last $425 no problem.
I just realized we also did a projector retrofit in this build, so that will need to be destroyed as well beyond usability.
This is to assure us that we did not get scammed for parts that we manufacture.
FAQ19 | ogstatus

From Me:

you really don’t want to make this easy for yourself do you?
I have zero problems destroying the lights, but are you going to pay me for the cores before I destroy them? I highly doubt it.
refund me $425 or we go through with number 2 option. choice is yours.
Best Regards,
Cody

Him:

I truly understand if this is your first time having to do this, but it's not uncommon for custom parts companies to ask for the products to be destroyed for either replacement or refund.
We have a warranty in place that could've covered replacement of the damaged parts from shipping if you did not ask for a full refund.
As far as we're concerned the shipping insurance has already covered your expenses which makes it possible for us to do a full refund on a custom made product.
The risk of getting damage from shipping is always there and we as a company are not liable for how the shipping company handles your package, which again is the purpose of the insurance in the first place.
Again, we require for our products to be destroyed beyond usability or shipped back to us as proof that this entire deal was not an elaborate scam or a con to receive "free" products.

Me:
You have till the 10th.

Him:
That doesn’t mean anything to us. We have exerted all effort to assist you in every way possible right from the start.
We’re not making this anymore complicated than you are. Shoot us those photos as soon as you’d like to receive your remaining $425 back.

Me:

the cores were not free. pay me for the cores and ill gladly destroy the lights.
the cost is $317.23 exact. you get where i'm getting at?
That’s okay if you don't. I’m not here to judge. September 10th is your deadline to refund.
have a good long weekend.

Him:
Just for the record, our warranty covers any broken parts resulting from shipping. The shipping insurance is meant to cover warranty rebuilds.
You have waved your qualification for a rebuild/replacement of broken parts when you asked for a full refund.
But to show our generosity as a company, we will replace the broken part and take a loss from it regardless of a full refund.
I will go back to the photos you sent to determine which side it is, and ship the parts to you, along with stock lenses.
You only need to destroy the custom parts you got from us, not the remaining parts that you provided.
How you do it is completely up to you since you refused to ship back the parts regardless of UPS attempted twice to pick it up from you to ship it back to us free of charge.

Me:
you do understand that i want to wrap up our business dealings, not to extend it right?
choice is yours.
let’s end the email exchanges right here. we are not getting anything further our of it.

Him:
And we have tried our best to resolve this matter with you as fairly as possible.
However, our policies are in place to protect us from scammers and con artists, there’s really nothing to it.
Our offer stands if you change your mind.

Me:
Ha!
That was the end of our email exchanges.

Like I promised, this is my written blast. I'll be sharing this on various automotive forums. Please feel free to share.
I will be following up with my lawyer friends to follow through with my intentions.

Finally, my word of advice to Mr. Daniel Alexis Valdes if you do see this.
Maybe get your ass off Instagram and Facebook and do some honest work for once?
and someone who talks like this to their customers will never make it big in life

That is beyond bad.
You are being too lenient with him.

After the first snarky response back a lot of customers would have taken action and let that send the message.
This going back and fourth with bullshit messages is truly awful for anyone in the position of running a legitimate business.
It's clearly not a legitimate business, just some guy stealing money for whatever you call this light rework service.
Wow...

thank you for your support, folks. I made a thread on facebook and it exploded.
the comment section is hilarious

He really doesn't have any business, he's a stay at home dad who works from his garage, but in actuality he just spends all his time on social media like instagram and facebook.
I really do feel bad for him....

I looked at his IG page and seen his post about you being a picky unreasonable customer. For the price I wouldnt have been happy either with the work.
I blocked that account so IG doesnt recommend that page to me in the future and to keep me from accidentally forgetting about this thread and possibly doing business with him.
yea, i unfollowed him. he spends half of his day on instagram sharing memes instead of doing any actual work.

btw, this is the fb group where I posted my blast.

So recap, you paid him. You got back some of the original 1475, he was then paid $2950 for $1475 of actual item value by UPS and still chose to keep all of it out of spite for you asking for what you paid for.
So he ripped off you and wasted your time as well as defrauded UPS.

This is accurate?

yes, the exact amount was $1425 x 2 = $2850.
I went through paypal dispute and won, got back $1000.

now i'm $425 short + broken cores.
i also paid for the shipping of the cores to him, which is roughly $100, but i'll ignore that as sunken cost as well.

All I asked for was $425 back.

Dang after everything let him get the easy way out? I'd at least let UPS know about the situation. He gets to pocket money for shoddy work. You lost time ate some costs. This guy talking about destruction for fear of being defrauded when hes doing it broad daylight...

#28 ·
the story continues:

a refund was made, albeit $12.77 short.
I have not received any word of my cores being sent out. I'll give him 14 days for tracking info. that's fine.

but there's the extra juice i've been waiting for.

Guy wants an apology from me or threatens to sue me LOL
