Hit And RUN

Woke up this morning to a neighbor knocking on my front door, then informing me that my car was hit overnight in a hit and run....Well Happy Easter to me!! So I go down only to find a red Honda Civic smashed up and turned sideways over a parking curb. And then my car.. passenger door smashed in!! (if anyone of you who know me, I call them speed dents.. but this one I dont know if its too speedy).

So the cops come out and give me the report and inform me that unfortunately I am going to have to go through my insurance for this b/c it was a hit and run and car and driver are unknown. Then a neighbor comes out and says that it was around 4:30 AM when he and his wife heard a bang and looked out and saw a few kids standing around and then leave and they saw the apartment they eventually went into. The cops knew about it, but said without the car there or anything there was nothing they could do.

My question is, I have already called my insurance company and made a claim with them, but what the hell should I do. I have full coverage with State Farm and I know it will be covered, but are my rates going to go through the roof for this shit!! I mean shit I was inside sleeping the car was just parked, and some jerkoff kids hit it and ran.. and now do I have to pay for it!!!

Here are the pics, if anyone has any good recommendations for body shops in South Florida.. or hell anywhere in FL let me know.. I want the best, and I dont really care about the money since the insurance company is going to have to pay for it!! If anyone can give me some advice (other than going to choke the kids out who did it - yeah I thought about it, but its not too constructive).. please let me know, I would appreciate it.

Have to find a host for the images.. but pics will follow soon..

Sorry to hear, nothing pisses me off more than when people damage somebody elses property and don't man up to it. I can host the pics, email them to me at
balticblue AT gmail.com

Goodluck with everything and hopefully you can get a garage for it soon.

I've seen Stefan's work (the owner of Elite Autobody) and it looks top notch, perhaps he is the one to turn to for you.

I don't get how can people be such scumbags, as to hit somebody's pride a joy, and not own up to it. But there's many people like that. I also don't get how such sweet car just sits out in the street overnight. If I couldn't park mine in the garage, I wouldn't even think of owning a Supra, considering there are so many scumbags out there. I hope you notified the cops about the witness who says he saw where the shitheads went. If the cops aren't investigating, they're just being lazy and neglecting their duty. A cop who wants to do his job can go knock on that door and start asking questions. That's what they're trained for. A crime has been commited here, and I'm sure he can get to the bottom of this, if they really want to do their job. The fact that when the cops arrived the dirtbags were gone means nothing. In most cases, the cops don't arrive at the scene of a crime and find the criminal there waiting to confess. That's BS. If you think the cops are in no hurry to investigate, mention it to your insurance agent. As for your rates, there's no way they're going up because of this, since the incident happened by no fault of your own. Good luck.

Damn brother that sucks ass but I must say replacing a door or door panel is much less traumatic that what it could have been.

Also the damage on that Honda looks like its from another accident? I mean its pretty severe compared to your damage. I dont even see any paint marks left on your door?
Also look how high the Honda's bumper line is compared to the damage on your car?
I would be saying to myself "man something does not look right?".

Pursue it with the police. How can they be so negligent as not to follup on a lead? Call them! Ask for a detective, chief or whatever the hell. Call the mayor or council members for all I care. You are a voter. The police should be there for you. Hell, get a lawyer who knows his way around the system.

Thanks for the words guys.. I am going to call the police station later tonight about this. I mean the least they could do is go knock on the door. And the civic didnt hit me.. that car took teh brunt of the runaway vehicle coming up over that small curb there, and then the runaway car hit my car.. no paint swapping if any it is a white small wheelbase compact car... oh and its being looked for. The car usually spends the nights in the garage... this is prolly the first time it was outside overnight in 3 months... Shitty luck I guess :(

Holy shit dan, when did you get those wheels??!?!? those are so nice man. But as for the hit and run that sucks balls. Looks just like when my car was hit by my friend. Itll be about 2k worth of damage. New door etc, it didnt get your rear panel at all did it? but yea, find those fuckers and make them pay. Are there security cameras in the complex or no? That couple didnt see type of car or anything? Well again good luck with the insurance itll get fixed man

Sorry to see that. Anyu siutation like this regardless of what kind of car it happens to is sad to see.

To get it taken care of on insurance you can do one of tow things. First thing is check your policy and MAKE SURE you have uninsured or underinsured motorist coverages. If you don't have those then your rates WILL go up if you file a claim. Uninsured is not part of the "full coverage". You are not required to carry it if you have a loan on the car. It is an elected coverage.

If you have Underinsured and Uninsured, just call them, make a claim, pay the deductible and get your car fixed. They will then attempt to pursue the at fault party and have them pay for it. You can ultimately get your deductible back that way as well. If state farm gets all the money back, they will then give you your deductible back.

However, if you dont' have those coverages, it will then revert to your Collision coverage in which the deductible would still apply and you would be hit with an at fault accident, which in turn, would raise the rates.
