you don't have to put the car in dyno mode to dyno it. What the dyno mode does is tell the car that the front wheels wont be spinning. so the DSC and ABS systems do lose their mind. Dyno without dyno mode and you get christmas tree on the dashboard from ABS and DSC and etc. They will remain until all the wheels move. Likely within the first 20-40 feet of forward driving. It doesnt effect power output. At least it doesnt on out BMW counterparts. We dyno these things almost daily.

It's a fail regardless due to its build quality in comparison to the later. It will sell because of the newer crowd but it will not retain any type of legend and value.

Sorry, never saw these until now when the thread got bumped. But no there are no differences in power between Dyno mode being on or off. Its mainly just to keep the car systems happy and not freak out and need to be driven to recalibrate and etc.

 

Toyota designed this entire car. It's behavior and characteristics. Then they used BMW parts and their factories to produce it. The entire Soul is JDM except for interior feel and sound. Just because it was produced in Austria does not take away from the car.

It's not a rebaged Z4. Toyota designed the Z4 for BMW. Not the other way around.

No manual, no targa. That could be coming in the future. Targa top is nice but not desired from a sports car point of you and flex.

"Short base chassis: not good for high acceleration in aggressive boost." - whatever that means. Toyota designed the entire chassis like this to build the ultimate sports car. Any variation from that wheelbase and you lose the optimal ratio.

Yes, it is a small design.

Sure vents are fake. Some can be made real, some are for design only. Looking at the car in real life you don't see too many crazy vents actually. Looks normal.

Complicated engine. Engine is much less complicated than that of MKIV. MKIV engine had way more parts.

Auto tranny: Best auto tranny out there. Manual could be coming.

It's a BMW ZF tranny specially made for their modular B series engines. They pulled it from a 520d I believe but had custom make the clutch pedal box to fit under the dash. The driveshaft had to be extended 3 inches and the shifter linkage 2 inches as well to sit back far enough. It's a small trans that weighs like 85 lbs but the bell housing did bolt up flush. Who knows how much torque it can handle in the long run though

I find this discussion fastinating, so blinded by anti -BMW sentiment. I wonder how many people who have commented above have actually driven an A90. I get how iconic the Mark IV Supra is, but time has moved on my friends. This is unapolegically a different car for a different era and market, which wouldn't be here if not for the collaboration between BMW and Totota. I have owned a number of faboulous sport cars and currently I have GR A90 in the garage. It is not perfect but it an amazing piece of engineering, which is a joy to drive hard. I am currently preparing it for Targa Tasmania this year. Let's see who cleans up at the 24 hr endurance races in 2020. Drive your Mark IV's with the pride that you should, but keep an open mind otherwise you will be just living in the past.

Did I drive one? Yes. It drives great and is fun to beat on and takes it well. It is claustrophobic for someone my height, it has boring BMW interior and lame bmw shifter and goes fast. It's a new shiney car that has a supra emblem on it, the car actually being worthy of that name is another conversation. If you dont care about the politics, heritage, and Toyota missing their chance to do what chevy did with the new corvette then it's a fine car, drive it, park it, stare at it, make 500 posts on Instagram about it but dont fucking apologize for Toyota being lazy cheap dickheads. They will reap what they sow.

Ummmm! Now we are Toyota haters. By the way I have raced a corvette in the US in 2015. They look pretty, but pity they can't go around corners. Your view of the whether or not Toyota could have produced the A90 (in a financially viable way) is totally uniformed in terms of what world markets of car manafacting are doing. I not impressed with the world car platforms that are shared across a number brands either, but have a look around it has been happening for some time and unfortunately I don't think the trend will be reversed.

 

This topic has been covered in other threads. I've seen you've joined a week ago so you probably don't know. But there was no need for the BMW partnership with Toyota, it was used as a way to supposedly save money. We have been following this car for the better part of a decade so please do not act as if we are somehow ignorant on Toyota's decisions. And the chassis code J29, not A90.
