Hi

Everyone asks why the hate, I will tell you briefly why:

The car lost it’s soul. No JDM enthusiasm and no identity. Toyota didn’t even make the car. The car is made in BMW manufacture in Austria.

Z4 engine, Z4 key, Z4 trans, Z4 diff, Z4 interior, Z4 chassis, Z4 frame, Z4 suspension. This is just a rebadged Z4 not a Supra.

The new supra is an epic FAIL

No manual transmission, no targa top.

Short base chassis: not good for high acceleration in aggressive boost.

Small designe: smaller than a 370Z and narrower than a GT86.

Fake vents: leads to nothing especially the door’s. Every car has fake vents that can be worked out by tuning companies (not a feature in the Supra).

complicated engine: expensive to repair, and unreliable.

Auto transmission: unfunny, underpowered and unreliable.

That’s why the car is hated so much
Toyota designed this entire car. It's behavior and characteristics. Then they used BMW parts and their factories to produce it. The entire Soul is JDM except for interior feel and sound. Just because it was produced in Austria does not take away from the car.

It's not a rebaged Z4. Toyota designed the Z4 for BMW. Not the other way around.

Define the epic fail.

No manual, no targa. That could be coming in the future. Targa top is nice but not desired from a sports car point of you and flex.

"Short base chassis: not good for high acceleration in aggressive boost." - whatever that means. Toyota designed the entire chassis like this to build the ultimate sports car. Any variation from that wheelbase and you lose the optimal ratio.

Yes, it is a small design.

Sure vents are fake. Some can be made real, some are for design only. Looking at the car in real life you don't see too many crazy vents actually. Looks normal.

Complicated engine. Engine is much less complicated than that of MKIV. MKIV engine had way more parts.

Auto tranny: Best auto tranny out there. Manual could be coming.

Now, I'll explain you why the car is hated so much. We live in day and age of Hate. Hate is like politics or religion. Idiotic sickness infecting young people. People filled with hate have only 2 opinions: Mine and the Wrong One. Everyone is a copy cat. 95% of you can't even think logically. No one even understands what Toyota tried to do with this car. We live in some era where kids can't drive cars fast unless the car has like 600hp.

There is not much wrong with MKV if you realize what this car actually is.

And so that it's clear, I don't come here to convince you, I just come here once in a while to vent the hate of this world off.

Every "hate" you people throw out there can be debunked.

Hmmm I disagree with some of your points.

So Toyota designed the Z4 and BMW released it before and gave it the better head? You most likely do not even know the difference between the B58s in the Supra and Z4. The Supra has the shitty one.

You also are clueless because Tada, just about two weeks or so, said that a manual is not coming and if you want one, buy a 86. He said those words.

It was design by a group as the FT1 but Toyota took what was supposed to be a sports car for them and capitalized on the Supra name after the positive feedback of the FT1 and shrunk it down to this nonsense.

You cannot build a car and the “soul” comes from another manufacture. DAFAQ.

I think thats the narrative you want to believe. I don't hate the car or hate anyone who made it. Again you aren't shifting the tides of peoples opinions. People are too busy trying to convince eachother why the car is great or why it isnt. Can't we just both agree its a bmw supra that has nothing to do with its predecessor.

Definitely not trying to shift any tides of peoples opinions. I don't care what people like or don't like. Just trying to show you people the hate is idiotic. It's hate for hate. Everything you people hate and back by facts, can be loved and backed by facts.

In 1993 when MKIV came out, the car was not liked by many, but there was no idiotic hate for no reason. That generation of people were way more intelligent, and more open to see both sides of the story. This generation is sick. Unhealthy. Got caught up in the peak of the limited view of things and will always find a negative angle to everything.

You should start looking at MKV what it is, not what you want it to be, what is should have been, or what MKIV was. Toyota "Supra" car was different each time.

I'm so glad Toyota never built a super car out of this, but instead tried to produce a normal car (btw exactly what MKIV was groomed for), while taking a stab at building the best possible sports car platform. This has been only tried like maybe 2 times before: Mazda RX7 FD (using different approach) and Porsche Cayman.

..
Idiotic? Really?
The car is a BMW, through and through. If you think for a single second that BMW allowed Toyota to change anything of note, you are sadly mistaken. BMW had total control of this deal, and the one in control makes ALL relevant decisions and gets what they want in the end.
You need to rethink your blame on "this generation". If you mean a current or recent generation, you are wrong about that as well. The current generation knows little to nothing about Supra legacy and are more likely to buy a BMW badged as a Toyota.
I don't know what "generation" you belong to, but my generation is very, very likely well before yours.
There was no hate regarding the MKIV because it was not claimed to be something that it is not, nor was it a slap in the face to MKI, MKII, and MKIII owners or enthusiasts. The car was drastically different and expensive (not that the MKIIIs were cheap) and did not get that much attention at first. The fact that the car was such a drastic improvement over the MKIII was not obvious at first, but became clear over time.
The situation is quite different with this car. It is not a Toyota. It is not a major improvement over the MKIV. In fact, it is no longer in the same class that the MKIV ruled in its' day. Toyota had a chance to do something great (they certainly could have) and they punted. Into their own end zone.
I basically have little feeling for this car. It will be a minor footnote in car history, if at all, and will not exist very long. Toyota dropped significantly in my view as they were willing to settle for a few dollars for a brief high. I am certain BMW got much more value from Toyota IP than Toyota ever will get from this deal.
The Supra is dead - long live the Supra.

So people who are critical of this car are deemed haters and cannot accept your "facts." Got it.

???? the whole post was way off but this was a real head scratcher. Since when has Toyota been doing this may I ask and where did you get this info?
Toyota went to BMW to design a sports car. BWM said great but there is a simple problem. We never did one. Toyota told them that's fine, we will design the car, share it with Z4, and you will produce it. We will use whatever we like from BMW.

Toyota already had an idea what they wanted to build: sports car for everyone (same exact idea dating back to the first Supra basically). The MOVIE and "tuners" took MKIV in a completely different direction then it was build for. Hence the big confusion out there by the youngsters. They don't really know the pure Supra, which btw is exactly what I personally loved. Not the tuned cars. But to each his own. Fair and square. No judging. On a side note, even Tada said the same thing about MKV: to leave it alone. You will fuck it up if you touch it.

Toyota then went and designed the chassis (that is the car), and selected the parts it was going to use. Who cares where they were from, as long as the parts fit the chassis characteristics, design, reliability, performance, and whatever it needs to deliver the car.

There is more: Toyota wants to do a manual version, but BMW does not care, so in order to get a manual Toyota needs to pay for it alone. What you read on news is politically correct PR from Toyota. That's why people think Tada is bullshitting everyone, because he can't say sorten things. Hence the comments about people not wanting a manual anymore and etc. The truth behind closed doors is a bit different. Multiple version of the Supra are coming. Just have to be patient.

The only problem I have with the car is the illogical transmission. If you design the ultimate sports car, you may as well be able to race it. And as of now we can't. The auto tranny is in the way.

I’m sorry but no, Toyota commissioned GR to design the body (not chassis), and changed the valving on the shocks. That’s the extent of engineering they did. Besides that Toyota did some durability testing and told bmw of certain weak points and told them to fix it. If you consider that designing the body is enough to consider it your own product that would be the same as us taking any car, putting a body kit on it and some different shocks and saying we “made the car” and that we have the right to market it under a different brand.

In order for it to be a successor to the Supra the chassis would have had to be purpose built by Toyota using the extent of all there knowledge while having a motor with a cylinder head tuned by Yamaha and a engine code denoting the letter “G” not saying the A90 is a bad car, just it doesn’t deserve the Supra name.

The LC500 on the other hand does. Made with the same manufacturing tooling as the the LFA but mixing in fiber glass with the carbon fiber to keep cost down while increasing rigidity and using the 2urGse v8 with Yamaha tuned heads as the power plant. Loutus borrowed the motor for a Esprit concept car and retrofit the tundra TRD supercharger “ tvs1900 “ to bolt right on making 612hp using factory Toyota parts. Btw the lc500 has a cockpit-like wrap around dash as well while having the tach in the center. Toyota is keeping all their good cars under the Lexus badge nowadays.

Only reason Toyota yanked the z4 platform was because bmw owed Toyota for supplying them hybrid tech back in 2012 this was all just so that they can keep a good relationship between the two companies.

If we adjust for inflation a 1998 Supra would be 62k now add all the new tech and more expensive materials like a carbon/fiberglass chassis and ur looking at a car that should be 80-90k msrp which the lc500 is.

Supra means "Above or beyond" so it definitely doesn't fit this mid level roadster from another manufacturer that's treated like more of an after thought #TheMoreYouKnow

I agree with every part of this but I always find myself wondering.. Whats better, new "Supra" or no supra? I think they should have named it something else!

You are a bit too religious in your believes and what you read on the car. If you were objective and listened to Tada, Toyota, and others that worked on this, you would know who did the chassis, geometry, design and etc. It is public information.

Btw, they are also working (Toyota that is) on multiple new versions of the Supra.

And no, there was no Z4 platform. This is a brand new platform even for Z4.

This is my last post. I don't need to prove anything. The car is at the dealerships right now. You can go and drive it and see for yourself.

And the delusion continues.
We all listened and read what Toyota and Tada said and found they were lying through their teeth. Tada is simply a paid cheerleader and made such obviously incorrect statements (lies) about this car that I give him zero respect - period. We know who did 99% of this car - BMW.
You should have stopped with a last post long ago - you are spouting your opinions and they are totally belied by facts.
I will not go to a BMW dealership to drive a BMW and certainly will not go to a Toyota dealership to drive one. In fact, I will not have a BMW if you gave it to me.
Better get either of these BMWs soon if you want one - they will not be around long. I assume you do know that BMW has already announced there will not be another Z4.

The Supra is supposed to be a flagship car and the best that Toyota can muster, not a German engineered vehicle made to exactly fit in the middle of the pack. It’s such a middle performer and passionless project that bmw is already talking about getting rid of it to save costs

You’re right this z4 platform is new. But it is 100% bmw’s design. It was designed with their current factory & tooling in mind. which is why Toyota took longer to produce the Supra than bmw took to produce the z4. They had to collect data because they didn’t design the car and spent time tweaking the suspension to make it drive differently.

I’m not saying it’s a bad car. It just doesn’t deserve the Supra name.
